Before heading off to the eastern fjords yesterday we stopped at Diamond Beach, a black sand beach close to the Glacier Lagoon where chunks of ice sit glistening in the light.
The Eastern Fjords were a beautiful drive. The real highlight of the area for me though was a small town right on the coast that is home to a puffin colony. It was about an hour’s drive from Egilsstadir, the town where we stayed — not too far but about eight miles of the road was unpaved. Worth the drive. Puffins roost there on a hill in the spring, with steps right next to the colony which made for great viewing. (Click on any photo below to enlarge)
The fields of wildflowers along the drives are beautiful.
