We hit the southernmost part of Iceland today and will begin heading north tomorrow. The area is most visited for its black beaches and black basalt stone pillars and arches in the Atlantic. The sites are otherworldly. One of the weird things to watch out for is “sneaker waves”. Apparently there are waves that snatch unwary tourists off the beach every now and then so there are warning signs posted all over about not turning your back to the water. It poured all day and the fog was heavy as you will see in the pics. We took a short detour off our calculated route to visit an unnamed waterfall (at least to us) which was about 3/4 mile down a gravel road. We passed a field of Icelandic ponies so I had to stop and get some pics of them as well
